Love Brighton and Hove?
Would you like to work in a friendly team, earn a great salary whilst gaining a qualification, and help to keep our estates and neighbourhoods clean, safe and secure?
If you’ve had time away from the workplace and are looking to return to work either full or part time, or maybe start a new career in a supportive and friendly environment, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
(Only for Fixed Term Contracts) This role is available as a secondment to internal applicants in line with our secondment policy.
For an informal discussion, please contact Ivor Johnson -Estates Manager on 01273 294769.
About the role
You may already have experience in providing a high quality, customer focussed and responsive service. We are here to help improve and support our residents’ quality of life and ensure that the estates are clean, safe and secure.
As an Estate Assistant you will be providing a cleaning service and initiate repairs in the common ways of council owned flats and on the estates in Brighton and Hove. You will build and maintain good communication and relations between BHCC, tenants’ associations, tenants and leaseholders as laid out in council policy and tenancy agreements.
You should have the ability to prioritise tasks and to work to the standard specified in the cleaning schedule as agreed with residents in the buildings and outside areas. We take pride in the work we do, making sure our buildings and surrounding areas are clean and meet high quality standards.
We will support you to gain your NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning, to enable you to progress your career and earning potential.
You’ll be working in a team that is dedicated to empowering people to live well and thrive, supported by our city-wide work on fairness, inclusion, and engagement.
In return, we can offer you a competitive salary, weekly study time whilst you are completing your qualification, support from your team leader and colleagues, a generous annual leave allowance with the opportunity to buy extra days, staff discounts, and admittance into the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Please read our Apply for a job at the council pages carefully. They give you all the guidance you need to complete your application as well as information on what will happen after you’ve submitted your application and at interview.
As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Application form guidance) and Shortlisting questions guidance as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
Additional information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
