As a Peer Worker, you'll play a key role in supporting people facing homelessness by sharing your own experiences to provide hope, confidence, and guidance. Working within the outreach team, you will:
- Offer emotional and practical support to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home
- Share your own journey to help customers overcome challenges and build resilience
- Work alongside outreach workers to support people with housing, benefits, mental health, and substance misuse issues
- Assist customers in accessing support services and making positive life changes
- Provide valuable insights to shape the future of homelessness support services
- Help to engage individuals facing multiple disadvantages, including those involved in the criminal justice system
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Have lived experience of homelessness or being at risk of homelessness, particularly while managing mental health challenges or being in the criminal justice system
- Be open and honest in sharing your personal experiences to support and inspire others
- Be passionate about helping people achieve independence, stability, and wellbeing
- Have a kind and empathetic approach, recognising the unique needs of a diverse customer base
- Be a positive role model, demonstrating that change and progress are possible
