For this post, there will be the chance to undertake specialist training in food safety, health and safety and public health / infectious disease control.</p>\n<p>This role is suited for people already undertaking the BSc or MSc in Environmental Health or those working their way towards practitioner or chartered status after gaining the BSc or MSc in Environmental Health.</p>\n<p>The main duties within the Commercial team, based on suitable knowledge and competency, will include undertaking a variety of interventions including programmed inspections of food businesses, investigating complaints, participating in sampling programmes, supporting infectious disease investigations, investigating accidents and health and safety complaints.  The role will also involve providing professional and technical advice to businesses and colleagues, responding to a range of enquiries. </p>\n<p>In addition, there will be the opportunity to gain experience of other aspects of Environmental Health within the wider department in order to further professional competencies.</p>\n<p>As the candidate develops their competencies, there will be an expectation of responsibility for enforcement-led casework, managing approved establishments and other high risk process businesses, and the opportunity to contribute to our successful Primary Authority Partnership.</p>\n<p>The successful candidate will be well-organised, efficient and dependable; able to work within a fast-moving and challenging environment. They will be able to adjust to demands and define priorities, work rapidly and accurately and have the ability to communicate effectively with other professionals, elected members, senior managers within the Council and the general public.</p>\n<p>You will need to have a flexible approach to working hours (evening and weekend work may sometimes be necessary) and you may be requested to participate in the out of hours service for which an additional allowance is paid.
