About the team
The Transport Quality Management Team fulfills a vital role in assisting the management of Camden’s programme of Transport schemes. As a London Borough Camden owns and manages nearly all the roads and pavements (“highways”) within its boundaries. Transport Strategy are responsible for making proactive changes to our highways to improve road safety and encourage more sustainable transport choices whilst ensuring people and goods can move freely around the Borough. The Quality Management Team manage the data (how many cars, bikes etc. are on our roads), the finances (money in and out) as well as ensuring the team follow correct procedures (legal, safety & good practice) and help enshrine project management controls in all processes.
As a Transport Planning assistant/apprentice in the Strategic Transport Group, you will help ensure smooth and efficient delivery of transport policies, plans and projects that are contained within the Camden Transport Strategy.
About the role
- The apprentice will work alongside colleagues across the Transport Strategy Group, and with other internal partners and our residents and stakeholders, to help develop and implement various aspects of the Camden Transport Strategy.
- The role will be based within the Transport Quality Management sub-team. Our team manages governance, finance and data, making sure our teams have all the up-to-date information and ensuring they fulfil their duties within the legal framework, to the agreed standard and within budget. The successful candidate will therefore learn how to undertake a range of complex business, financial & administrative support tasks in line with corporate, divisional and team requirements. The role will use quality management and assurance systems to proactively plan and manage tasks which contribute to the delivery of the wider programme of work being delivered by the Group. In addition, the role will work across the rest of the Group, as required – including learning how to develop and implement transport policies and plans, Healthy Streets infrastructure schemes and our transport planning work with the HS2/Euston station development – as well as supporting funding bids in line with the needs of the team.
- The role will work with colleagues to ensure performance indicators, targets and standards for the service are being met. The postholder will also be responsible for providing support functions such as organising meetings and events for the services, as well as other administrative tasks as required.
- The role will learn to arrange and prepare for meetings including the preparation of agendas and taking notes/minutes of the meetings. And the role will also help log and manage correspondence for the team.
- The role will assist in the planning, design and implementation or assessment of transport planning solutions and schemes, including by carrying out data collection, analysis and evaluation as required. You will learn to interpret technical transport planning data and information where required.
About you
- You will gain an understanding and experience of the policy and statutory framework – locally, regionally and nationally - within which transport policy, planning and related activities operates.
- You will be a strong communicator, the role involves working with lots of teams inside and outside the organisation, including through the use of written reports and presentations.
- You will be able to contribute to funding bids for improvements for walking, cycling and bus priority measures in the Borough.
- You will need to have strong organisation skills, and experience with spreadsheets would be useful. The role will help organise, collate, and manage a wide range of information and data necessary for transport policy/scheme planning and development and programme improvements.
- You will be able to provide business management support, provide performance analysis and help devise and monitor performance improvement measures.
- You will gain the ability to implement and maintain support systems, including IT systems, necessary for the delivery of cost-effective, high-quality schemes and services.
- An aptitude for handling data and have a desire to work in transport planning with a passion for helping develop creative solutions. Some experience with GIS, or an interest in how it can be used to analyse complex datasets is desirable.
Work Environment:
This role will form part of our hybrid working arrangements with some office-based time, at 5 Pancras Square, and some time spent working from home. You may also be required to attend external meetings and site visits in line with the needs of the service.

Relationships:
This role will include working closely with key internal partners including Engineering Services, Planning, Placeshaping and Parking Services. The post holder will be required to liaise with stakeholders, including community groups, resident and amenity groups and external partners such as TfL. Other key relationships will be with Officers across the Strategic Transport Planning group. The postholder will report directly to the Principal Transport Quality Management Officer but will likely work with colleagues from across transport strategy as required.

Duties
Essential criteria
To apply for this role, applicants must:
- Be a Camden resident, former Camden secondary school student or a Camden care leaver.
- Be at Level 1 standard in English and maths (those without certificates can be assessed to check you are at the appropriate standard) and a commitment to work towards a Level 2 as a part of the apprenticeship.
- Not have a Business Administration qualification at level 3 or higher
- Not be an overseas national subject to employment or learning restrictions and/or a time or a limit on my stay (other than a refugee or asylum seeker)
- Be ordinarily resident in the England, EU or EAA for at least the previous three years before the start of the programme.
- Not be attending any other school, Further Education or Higher Education institution.
