This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Programme Manager, with a passion for community development and reducing health inequalities to join Tower Hamlets Public Health Division’s Healthy Communities Team.

Our unique function works to enable communities to drive change at a local level and embed strategic insight across the Council to influence positive health outcomes. You will work alongside three other Healthy Communities Programme Managers, each responsible for one of our localities. Key responsibilities include:

The post holder will work across the Public Health department, the council and with wider partners, including Tower Hamlets Together, NHS, community and voluntary organisations as well as universities. They will also supervise staff.

You will report to the Healthy Communities Programme Lead and will assist on all aspects of the Healthy Communities programme, taking the lead for specific programme areas as agreed. The post holder will deputise for the Programme Lead where required.

A Masters level qualification in Public Health or related subject is desirable and significant experience of public health practice including promoting health equity and project management is required.

Additional Information

You are likely to be requested to be available for occasional evening and weekend meetings, which are met within the requirements of the role.

Interviews will be held on 13 and 14 March 2025.

If you wish to discuss this post, please contact Stef Abrar, Programme Lead for Healthy Communities, stef.abrar@towerhamlets.gov.uk

“Tower Hamlets vision for our borough is that: people are aspirational, independent and have equal access to opportunities; we are a borough that our residents are proud of and love to live in; and we are a dynamic, outcomes-based council using digital innovation and partnership working to respond to the changing needs of our borough. We want people who aspire to our TOWER values: Together; Open; Willing; Excellent; Respect.

Tower Hamlets has a zero-tolerance approach to, and works to eradicate, all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status, status as a civil partner, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and maternity and looks to employ a diverse workforce representative of those groups. We recognise that people can also be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.

We welcome applicants interested in flexible working arrangements and also applicants who live in the borough.”
