The Housing Needs Service is a very busy environment and faces several challenges to meet the housing needs of residents of Charnwood.
The Team is responsible for the delivery of the following service functions:
- Provision of the statutory homeless service.
- Management of the housing register.
- Allocation of council housing and properties made available to us by registered providers of affordable housing.
The team are focused on preventing households from becoming homeless by providing advice and tailored solutions, as well as supporting households in unsuitable housing to find more suitable accommodation. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our borough.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available within the Housing Needs team.
As a Housing Allocations Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for supporting the Council to ensure that our service is accessible to all. You'll have direct responsibility for ensuring applications for housing are assessed promptly in accordance with the Council housing allocations policy. Available Council and affordable housing is made available to our customers through our choice-based lettings scheme and properties are let efficiently to minimise rental loss from void properties. You will be responsible for line management of 6 x Housing Allocations Officers and 2 x Assistant Allocations Officers.
You'll be a vital member of the Housing Needs Management Team and will be involved in the development of the service with continuous improvement in mind. In this fast-paced service area, you will need to be creative, adaptable, and hardworking to maintain service standards and provide excellent services to our customers.
The main duties of this role include:
- Providing line management responsibility to Housing Allocations Officers and Assistant Allocations Officers.
- Co-ordinating resources to ensure consistency of service delivery, overseeing the allocation of housing application assessments and lettings.
- Conducting case sampling of housing register cases to monitor quality of decision making and identify training needs and potential service improvements.
- Supporting officers in making decisions in line with the allocations policy.
- Ensuring available properties are advertised, allocated and signed up promptly.
- Working on a rota basis to cover front line duty responsibilities.
About You
The successful candidate will be customer focused, organised and have a thorough understanding of the functions of a housing needs service. You will also fully understand the difficulties faced by people in housing need and have a proactive attitude to evolving difficult situations. You will be a team player but confident to work independently and have a flexible attitude to working under pressure. We are looking for an individual with a positive outlook and a desire to deliver a quality service to all.
A thorough working knowledge of housing legislation and statutory guidance, Microsoft Office applications and experience of managing a team in a housing environment is desirable. You must be able to maintain and update electronic information systems in accordance with data protection regulations.
This role reports directly to the Housing Needs Manager and will be part of our Strategic Housing team.
Please note, an enhanced DBS with barred list check is an essential requirement for this role.
