Job introduction

In Spring 2025 Brighton & Hove City Council are opening a new Residential Home for children with disabilities called Rainbow Lodge.

We are excited to offer the opportunity for you to work within this new setting.

For an informal discussion, please contact Lorraine Hughes – Head of Service for the Specialists Community Disability Service by email at lorraine.hughes@brighton-hove.gov.uk

About the role

Do you enjoy working with children and young people with a range of disabilities?

Do you want to make a difference to young people’s lives and support them to meet their full potential?

If so, we want to hear from you!

Our Deputy Manager will be Deputise for the Practice Manager (Registered Manager) of Rainbow Lodge and will be responsible, for the overall management and quality of the new Residential Home, which will provide care for up to 5 children and young people with a range of disabilities and complex needs. You will work in partnership with the young people’s parents / carers, our local special schools, social workers and our health colleagues to ensure that the young people experience the best care.

Due to the complexity of the young people’s disabilities the work can be challenging at times, but also very rewarding.

Do you have the resilience to work with children who have behaviours that challenge or complex health needs?

You will be part of the Specialist Community Disability Service 0 – 24 working alongside social workers and social work resource officers to provide children with disabilities and their families the support that they need.

As Deputy Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the home meets the standards and regulations of Ofsted and that the children and young people receive high-quality, person-centred care that meets their individual needs and preferences. You will be responsible for supervising staff and working in partnership with the Registered Manager to ensure the effective running of the home.

You will be part of a new team at Rainbow Lodge, and we are looking for a person who is enthusiastic and motivated to lead a team of staff who will provide excellent care and support to ensure that the children meet their full potential. You will also be expected to work directly with the children when this is required.

Please read our Apply for a job at the council pages carefully. They give you all the guidance you need to complete your application as well as information on what will happen after you’ve submitted your application and at interview.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Application form guidance) and Shortlisting questions guidance as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Please note that this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and is subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check.
