About this Housing Standards Surveyor Job in Canterbury:
The role of a Housing Standards Surveyor is key in supporting the work we do at Canterbury City Council to ensure there is good quality, healthy housing for households in the private rented sector accommodation within the district.
As a Housing Standards Officer you will undertake inspections offering advice where appropriate and taking enforcement action where necessary.
Offering a varied workload you will be dealing with work streams including:
- Disabled Facilities Grants;
- The Licencing of Houses of Multiple Occupation;
- Caravan Licencing;
- The delivery of Canterbury City Council’s Social Letting Agency;
- Responding to reports of disrepair in the private sector;
- Enforcement of legislation.
Working pattern
- Full-time, 37 hours per week
- Flexible, hybrid working arrangements
- A full week off over Christmas in addition to your annual leave allowance
About you, the ideal Housing Standards Surveyor for our team:
Your qualifications:
- A recognised HND or equivalent qualification in building / construction / environmental health; or a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role
- HHSRS Qualification
Your knowledge:
- Sound understanding of compliance with statutory landlord obligations and associated legislation in particular the Decent Homes Standard
- Understanding of the legal processes covering enforcement work including PACE, evidence gathering and prosecutions.
- Knowledge & understanding of the Housing Act 2004 and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
Due to the nature of this role, the successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check as part of their pre-employment clearances.
