A rare and interesting role has become available as part of the Council’s Planning Team for a Derelict Buildings and Empty Properties Officer. You will look to identify, investigate and inspect properties within Medway which are empty and/or harmful to the character of the area. Then liaise with the owners and/or occupiers of the properties to seek voluntary action to upgrade the appearance of the property and/or bring it back into use.
This is a role that combines excellent communication and negotiation skills with a desire and drive to improve and uplift those areas that require assistance. In some cases you will be required to take formal action when voluntary action is not forthcoming.
You will work closely with the Principal Planning Officers, the Planning Enforcement Team and the Head of Development Management. In addition to the extensive work with the public the role also involves regular working with local Councillors, Parish Councils and Neighbourhood Groups.
You will have excellent organisational skills to manage your own caseload and time deadlines and experience of working within the Planning or Housing Sectors.
In return we offer you:
We're committed to making Medway carbon neutral by 2050. We have developed an action plan to ensure we play our part in addressing the climate emergency. Our declaration fits into our http://www.mindfulemployer.net/ for information on how Medway Council put good practices in place to ensure employees and job applicants who declare mental health issues receive the right level of support.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy at any time prior to the closing date.
