Uttlesford District is consistently identified as one of the best places to live in the UK. We’re ideally located, with easy access to London and Cambridge and an international airport on our doorstep, and yet, the district still retains its rural character, alongside its market towns and villages.
We are seeking a flexible, self-motivated and enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer with a passion for improving public health and protecting the environment.
The successful applicant will need to have a ‘can do’ attitude to work, be self-motivated, flexible, take responsibility for a varied workload, be an effective communicator, committed to team working and willing to deliver exceptional customer service.
You will work within our small multidisciplinary team that predominantly covers the regulatory areas of Environmental Protection and Private Sector Housing enforcement. Experience across both disciplines is not essential for the role. You will also be required to prepare reports, consider, and carry out enforcement action, including recommendation for legal proceedings where appropriate and ensure that records and electronic filing systems are fully maintained and updated.
The role will suit a qualified and registered Environmental Health Practitioner. However, applications are also encouraged from graduates or undergraduates expecting to leave university in 2025. Uttlesford District Council is keen to support talented, aspiring graduates with the right skill set ready to embark in a career in Environmental Health. Support to achieve fully qualified and professional status will be provided as part of a career progression scheme.
A full driving licence and access to a car available for work is essential for the Graduate and EHO posts. Trainee applicants who do not possess a full driver’s licence and vehicle will be placed on a temporary contact and expected to pass their test within 9 months.
From time to time, there will be a requirement for some out of hours working.
Uttlesford District Council is a family friendly Council and embraces hybrid working. We encourage and support our employees to have a healthy work life balance as well as offering a range of benefits including generous annual leave, Flexi-time, leisure centre discounts, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and an online platform offering discounts from online retailers.
For an informal discussion please contact Marcus Watts, Environmental Health Manager (Protection) on 01799 510482.
