West Berkshire Council is seeking a Technician (Career Grade) to join our Projects (Highways) Team working alongside the Principal Engineer to contribute to the delivery of high-quality highway infrastructure projects. Whether you have no working experience, or those with previous technical expertise in the highways or civil engineering industry looking for a change, this role is for you.
The Role
As a Technician (Career Grade), you will play a key role in supporting the Projects Team in the design, implementation, and management of engineering schemes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting site visits and inspections to assess engineering requirements
- Undertaking data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Assisting with the design and specification of engineering works
- Collaborating with other teams and services to ensure effective project delivery
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders
- Proactive problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team
The role is career graded, so appeals to anyone with no working experience up to those with previous technical expertise in the highways or civil engineering industry.

Salary and Working Hours
This is a full-time position, working 37 hours per week. The maximum salary for this role is £35,235 per annum, paying pro-rata for part-time hours. As this role is career graded, the salary offered will reflect the suitable candidates experience.
