Job Purpose: 

• Contribute to the delivery of an effective Children’s Social Care Service, continuously improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people. 

• Provide practical and social support for children, young people, and families, contributing to care packages, recognizing serious risk, and promoting welfare. 

• Comply with national and service procedures and guidance, managing the reputation of the service and the Council. 

Main Duties: 

1. Work with children aged 0-25, contributing to ongoing assessments, care planning, and reviews, ensuring a child-centered focus. 

1. Undertake direct work with children, young people, and their families in homes and the community, promoting positive outcomes in line with care plans. 

1. Promote and facilitate contact for children and young people with their birth family members, providing supervision and assessment as required. 

1. Identify and assess levels of risk and need, delivering protective and/or supportive services for children at risk, in need, and/or looked after. 

1. Communicate effectively and confidently in a range of situations. 

1. Undertake home visits and welfare checks, ensuring children are safeguarded within the community and reporting safeguarding issues. 

1. Provide emergency cover or crisis intervention, including immediate tasks within the home to keep children safe and prevent accommodation. 

1. Support social workers during Child Protection Enquiries, including Section 47 enquiries and the immediate protection of children. 

1. Advise and refer or signpost to other services, such as financial support, accommodation, and welfare rights. 

1. Contribute to work directed by the family courts. 

1. Support the involvement of children and young people in decisions affecting their lives, helping them make informed decisions. 

1. Promote the well-being and resilience of children and young people, understanding child development, emotional identity, and self-esteem. 

1. Work individually or as part of a team. 

1. Demonstrate inclusive practice in relation to identity and diversity, challenging any issues of concern. 

1. Work cooperatively with colleagues and in partnership within the Council and across agency boundaries, including statutory, voluntary, and community groups. 

1. Enter and record high-quality information on the Council’s children’s database. 

1. Provide support to qualified social workers, including practical tasks and administrative support. 

1. Prepare for and attend Performance and Development Reviews, supervision sessions, and staff meetings, utilizing learning and development opportunities.
