An exciting opportunity to place Leisure and Parks at the centre of our transformation programme

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our communities so it is an exciting time to join us.

We're changing how we organise and provide services in Brent to help everyone here live their best lives. Our new strategic change programme is about offering public services differently, with staff who are positive, empowered, accountable, and confident to try new things.

Where we always do things with our residents in our minds, developing a deep understanding of local communities, working together across different organisations for the people we serve.

The Post

This role will lead the development and delivery of the Council’s leisure services, parks and green open space within this transformation agenda. The role will lead a new strategic cross-Council approach to leisure to maximise the benefit of Council assets and realise the power of active leisure to improve health and to promote community development and economic growth. Working with communities and partners, including Sports England, National Sports Governing Bodies, Leisure Operators and the NHS, the postholder will identify and act on opportunities to address the long-standing levels of inactivity and health inequalities in the borough.

The role will lead on large scale capital projects, including the building of a brand-new Leisure Centre designed in response to the aspirations of the local community as part of a significant regeneration programme. As the Authority’s Representative the postholder will lead the commercial management of the Council’s Leisure PFI and the plan for its expiry in seven years.

The Person

You will bring a deep knowledge and understanding of the sports and leisure industry, relevant legislation, regulation and guidance with experience of the procurement and management of large scale, high value contracts and supplier relationships

You will combine a commitment to working with our diverse communities and partners to increase physical activity levels and promote inclusive participation with an understanding of how to achieve this.

We are seeking someone who can build and sustain highly effective relationships and networks to deliver change across organisational and professional boundaries.

You will demonstrate an ambition and curiosity for innovation and change – a focus on pushing us to be better and exploring new ways of doing things that create better impact.

Closing date: 4 March 2025 (23:59)
