Situated in Zone 5, Sutton is less than 30 minutes by train from central London, and south and south west London are easily accessible by public transport. There are 10 train stations which serve key neighbourhoods within the borough providing direct connections to London Victoria, London Bridge, London Blackfriars and St Pancras International. Sutton also has direct rail connections with Epsom, Dorking, Guildford and Horsham, as well as Wimbledon for an interchange with the London Underground and West Croydon for the London Overground. There's also an extensive road network which provides close and easy access to the M25 and M23.
About the Service and Team :
The Short Term Assessment and Reablement (START) Team provides a Reablement Service to the London Borough of Sutton. You will be based in the Start team, and work autonomously providing occupational therapy for people receiving a Reablement Service. You will work closely with, and receive supervision from the new Occupational Therapy Hub.
Guided by the Team Manager and Principal Occupational Therapist, the new Occupational Therapy Hub in Sutton unifies Occupational Therapy and Sensory services within social care. The Occupational Therapy Hub provides professional leadership and support for practitioners, including specialist support from our in house Moving and Handling Advisor. We offer career development opportunities, including apprenticeships and a unique Preceptorship for new or returning therapists. Sutton is proud to have pioneered Occupational Therapy Preceptorship in social care, to support and develop people who are newly qualified or returning to practice. The Occupational Therapy Hub focuses on strength-based assessments to enhance independence and well-being, covering a wide range of support from reablement, assessments for adaptations including disabled facilities grants, optimal care, to housing needs assessments, making it a comprehensive service for the community.

Occupational Therapists within the Short Term Assessment and Reablement Team (START) are responsible for:
- Screening and prioritising Reablement occupational therapy referrals. You will work with people to achieve their goals for up to 6 weeks, supporting them to regain their independence, and prevent, reduce and delay the need for ongoing support.
- Delivering robust Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to meet the needs of our residents and their carers. Interventions will include equipment provision, minor adaptations, making recommendations for major adaptations and working closely with residents and their formal and informal carers to implement optimal moving and handling practices. From the peripheral store, adaptations, and working closely with formal and informal carers to provide moving and handling risk assessment.
- Work closely with colleagues in the Sutton Health and Care NHS teams and the Hospital Pathway Team. You will provide guidance and supervision to Enabling Independence Officers in Reablement, who complete work as Trusted Assessors.
