About the Role:

Lambeth Council is seeking a dynamic and analytical Senior Transport Planner to lead the development of our walking and cycling policy – placing data, evidence, and people at the centre of our approach to delivering a greener, healthier borough.

As the Walking & Cycling Policy Lead, you will be at the forefront of shaping Lambeth’s sustainable transport vision. This role is key to embedding a data-driven culture across transport strategy and delivery – ensuring decisions are rooted in robust evidence, informed by emerging trends, and evaluated against measurable outcomes.

You will bring technical expertise in transport planning, combined with a strong command of transport and related data sources. Your work will support the council’s long-term objectives on climate action, inclusive growth, and health equity — translating complex datasets into impactful policies and engaging insights.

This is a high-profile role, offering the opportunity to influence change at scale. We're looking for someone who is experienced, creative in problem-solving, confident with data and digital tools, and focused on how transport can improve lives and places.

To be considered for interview, your CV and supporting statement will clearly evidence:

• A degree-level qualification in transport planning or a closely related field.
• Substantial experience in policy development within a public sector or local authority context, particularly in sustainable transport and active travel.
• Advanced knowledge of transport and related datasets, data management systems, and performance evaluation methods.
• A proven ability to embed data-led approaches in strategy formation, policy design, and impact measurement.
• Experience in designing and leading monitoring frameworks to evaluate the effectiveness of transport policies and projects.
• Strong experience in stakeholder engagement and cross-sector collaboration, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to present complex evidence in an accessible, compelling way to both technical and non-technical audiences, including elected Members, residents, and partner organisations.
• A demonstrable commitment to creative, inclusive and people-focused planning, with an understanding of how data can enhance social and environmental outcomes.
• Experience in managing projects and funding applications, including working with Transport for London and other external bodies.
• A collaborative, professional approach, aligned with Lambeth Council’s values and behaviours.
