About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Strategic Transformation PMO Lead to join our Transformation Directorate. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating, supporting, and monitoring the Newham Transformation and Improvement Portfolio. This includes overseeing the delivery of the LGA Peer Challenge Action Plan and the wider transformation initiatives embedded in our Transforming Newham for the Future Plan, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and strategic goals.
In this role, you will lead the development of a strategic portfolio framework, manage the portfolio office, and ensure robust governance, tracking, and assurance mechanisms are in place. You will work closely with senior leadership to provide visibility of the portfolio pipeline and drive decision-making aligned with strategic objectives.
Key to your success will be your ability to communicate complex information effectively, negotiate with senior stakeholders, and ensure seamless integration of cross-functional projects. You will also champion continuous improvement and innovation across the portfolio, contributing to tangible benefits for both the Council and residents.
About You
To thrive in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in setting up and managing portfolio, programme, or project offices at a strategic level.
- Strong knowledge of portfolio management methodologies and experience in delivering complex change initiatives.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact confidently with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- A track record of delivering results in a high-paced, dynamic environment, with a passion for public service improvement.
- Experience in programme and project management frameworks such as Prince2 or Agile is essential, and local government or public sector experience is desirable but not mandatory.
