The Role
The Children's Occupational Therapy Service sits within the Children's Services Directorate and is managed by the Adult Social Services Directorate.
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Children's Occupational Therapist to join our Service.
The Children's Occupational Therapy Service is responsible for delivering statutory duties under the Chronically Sick and Disabled Person's Act 1979, the Children Act 1989, The Children and Families Act 2014 (SEND Code of Practice), the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.
In this role, you will offer an Occupational Therapy Service to children and young people with a physical and/or sensory impairment, and their families/carers, in the North Somerset area.
Key Responsibilities:
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work Style

- Accurately assess the occupational therapy needs of children and young people and provide appropriate interventions to meet their needs in a variety of settings.
- Maintain accurate recording of occupational therapy interventions on the Council's recording system.
- Manage a caseload of children and young people with a variety of clinical needs with appropriate supervision from the Senior Occupational Therapist.
- Contribute to the service development of the team to improve service standards and achieve service delivery within the Children's Occupational Therapy Service.

Essential Criteria:
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Registered as an Occupational Therapist with Health and Care Professionals Council.
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to Occupational Therapy in health and social care settings for children including safeguarding children, Data Protection, Equality and Diversity and the legal frameworks mentioned above.
- Satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure certificate (relevant applications and checks will be carried out before and job offer is confirmed).
- Knowledge and understanding of manual handling and assistive equipment.
Desirable Criteria:
Experience of working with children in a health or social care setting is desirable but not essential.
Experience of working in social care to deliver home adaptations via Disabled Facilities Grants is desirable but not essential.
