Are you an experienced and passionate leader looking for an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? Danecourt is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Assistant Headteacher to join our leadership team.
Danecourt Special School is a highly regarded, expanding special school based in Medway, Kent. We cater for children aged 4-11 with a wide range of complex needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
At Danecourt, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child can thrive and become 'STARS' (Self Reliant, Team Player, Aspirational, Resilient and Successful). We take pride in our child-centred approach, using specialist interventions and innovative teaching strategies to support each pupil’s individual journey. Our highly skilled and dedicated team works collaboratively to ensure that every child is equipped with the tools they need to achieve their full potential.
As part of The Maritime Academy Trust, we benefit from a strong network of support, continuous professional development, and access to a wider learning community dedicated to improving outcomes for children with SEND.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about leading in a SEND environment, with the ability to inspire staff, engage with parents and the community, and create a positive, inclusive culture that supports both staff and students.
What We’re Looking For:
- A passionate and experienced leader with a proven track record in improving outcomes for children, particularly those with special educational needs.

- You have a strong understanding of the SEND landscape, with experience in leading initiatives that support children with autism, SEMH, and other complex needs.
- A collaborative and approachable leader, you believe in building strong relationships and creating a positive, inclusive school culture.
- You are committed to continuous professional development, both for yourself and your team, and have the ability to foster an environment of learning and growth for all staff.
What We Offer:
- The opportunity to work at a highly regarded and expanding special school, where you can make a real difference in the lives of our pupils.
- A supportive and experienced leadership team within the Maritime Academy Trust, offering access to a wide network of support and best practices across multiple schools.
- A commitment to your professional development, with access to continuous CPD opportunities to help you grow and develop in your career.
- A positive and inclusive working environment where staff wellbeing and collaboration are at the heart of what we do.
- National terms and conditions & Local Government Pension scheme
- Early access salary scheme and financial advice
