About Camden
Camden is a borough driven by social justice, where we work alongside our citizens to tackle complex challenges and ensure that no one is left behind. Our residents are our greatest asset, and we are committed to increasing citizen participation in decision making to build a stronger, more connected community. The Community Wealth Fund (CWF) is a £30m social impact investment initiative aimed at transforming investment and funding markets for the better. Focused on increasing economic opportunities for young people and ensuring greater diversity in leadership, this ambitious fund places citizen involvement and decision making at its core.
How You’ll Be Involved
As the Community Wealth Fund enters our pilot phase, we seek an experienced social investment professional to work with our Youth Panel and community decision making groups to build out two new investment funds, one focussed on improving economic opportunities for the young people of Camden, and the other focussed on giving entrepreneurs from under-represented backgrounds access to capital.
You will support our community decision making groups in shaping an investment strategy, designing and launching a fund, conducting due diligence, and making investments. This is social investment done in a completely new way; therefore the role requires adaptability, strong emotional intelligence, and a commitment to power-sharing in investment.
You will manage partnerships across Camden, particularly building networks of entrepreneurs and business leaders interested in our funding. Supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs through the application process will be central to this role. You will also handle investments from application to disbursement, including legal agreements, and refine processes alongside our panels.
All About You
We are looking for some who has experience in structuring investments across equity, debt, and quasi-equity, conducting financial analysis and due diligence, and preparing investment recommendations. Strong communication skills, emotional awareness, and an interest in continuous improvement are essential. You should have experience supporting entrepreneurs through an investment process, negotiating legal agreements, and building investment pipelines. A strong understanding of impact measurement and stakeholder engagement will be key to success.
If you decide to apply for this job, please make sure that in the application form you explain in detail how you have acquired and put into practice the following key skills. These are the criteria we will be shortlisting applications against:
1. Communication skills, especially explaining investment principles to non-investors
2. Investment expertise, and details of which instruments you have worked with previously
3. Running an investment process end to end
4. Supporting entrepreneurs through an investment process
5. Ways in which you have tackled inequality through your work
