The Service
Solent Growth Partnership team are Portsmouth City Council (PCC) employees working on behalf of the partnership and have responsibility across the wider geography and report under the Economic Development and Skills service in the Economy, Transport and Planning Directorate. The home base for work is Portsmouth Civic Offices and regular attendance at this, and sites across the 3 unitary authorities of Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton
Solent Growth Partnership (SGP) is the functioning economic area including Isle of Wight (IOW), Portsmouth and Southampton unitary authorities. Created in April 2024, following the closure of Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) the partnership works across the unitary authority areas to ensure the economic prosperity of the region.
Your new role

Join us at the Solent Growth Partnership, where you'll lead the delivery of impactful projects and collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve our ambitious goals. Reporting to the Head of Economic Development and Skills at Portsmouth City Council, you'll play a crucial role in identifying and securing new income generation activities, developing funding bids, and managing key relationships with partners.
As a vital member of our team, you'll ensure the effective delivery of contracts, manage financial claims, and commission high-quality third-party services. You will also lead the development of new programs and services, driving a diverse portfolio of projects that align with our vision. You will collaborate with unitary authority Economic Development teams, district and borough representatives, the DWP, and other government departments to make a real difference. What you'll need to succeed
You will have a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience. A project management qualification is a plus. You will have excellent communication skills and proven business development experience, ideally in economic development. Strong project management and people management skills are essential, along with experience in claims and reporting processes. Bid writing and commissioning experience, particularly in a local authority or business support setting, are desirable.
You will also have excellent organisational and presentation skills, substantial experience in building effective stakeholder relationships, and have experience in leadership to direct and motivate teams. Financial and commercial acumen is crucial to maintaining our self-funding service. If you are ready to make a significant impact, we want to hear from you!
