Job description
West Berkshire Council are looking to recruit a Senior Technician to work within our busy Asset Management team.
You will contribute to the delivery of asset management activities within the Environment service, specifically working within the highway asset management team and delivering the highway maintenance service.
In helping to maintain over 1,300km of highway network, you would be assisting with all aspects of reactive highway maintenance including:
- Identifying defects, assessing need/risk/urgency of repairs and issuing instruction to our contractor for repairs using a mobile tablet device.
- The undertaking of scheduled walked and driven inspections of roads and footways at regular intervals as defined in policy/current guidance.
- Overseeing enforcement of the removal of unauthorised highway nuisances and obstructions, and other infringements of the highway and associated legislation.
- Checking works for quality and compliance with technical standards and agreeing sums for payment of the work.
- Managing and responding to correspondence.
- Ensuring that all works are carried out safely and in accordance with health and safety policies and good practice.
Ideally, you should have experience in delivering highway maintenance and improvement works, ideally through a term contract arrangement, and you will also need a full driving licence and access to a vehicle in order to fulfil this role.
