Do you want to make a positive impact in your local community? West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Waste Officer to join our Transport and Countryside Service, working alongside the Senior Waste Officer to deliver high-quality waste and recycling services.
The Role
As a Waste Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the effective management of waste and recycling services within West Berkshire. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the day-to-day operation of waste and recycling services, including contract management and performance monitoring
- Responding to customer enquiries and providing advice and information on waste management
- Conducting inspections and audits to ensure compliance with legislation and service standards
- Supporting educational initiatives to promote recycling and waste reduction
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve waste management objectives
- In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects and initiatives aimed at improving waste management practices and driving environmental sustainability.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Knowledge and understanding of waste management principles, practices, and legislation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and advise customers
- Strong organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work on your own initiative
- Team player, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for this role, as site visits will be required.
