SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: 31.25 hours per week, 8.30am to 3.30pm with a 45 minute lunch lunch break x 39 weeks per year
Grade: APTC Scale 3, Point 5-6
Actual Salary: £21,290 p.a. - £21,595 p.a. (FTE £28,521 p.a. - £28,929 p.a.)
Contract: Temporary until 22nd July 2025

Scargill Junior School is looking to appoint a committed and experienced Temporary SEN Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and vibrant school.
You will join a strong, positive and supportive team of staff within an Academy that is committed to providing a positive, safe and stimulating learning environment for our pupils and staff. Scargill Junior School is part of Hornchurch Academy Trust and offers excellent opportunities for training, support, career development and sharing best practice amongst its five schools.
We are looking to appoint a Temporary Teaching Assistant who has experience working with children with a range of special educational needs. The role is predominantly working as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant but some group work may be required.
The role involves supporting children with complex physical, sensory or learning and development needs. Experience delivering speech therapy plans an advantage. Any experience using visual timetables, PECs, workstations, positive handling training and knowledge when managing children with emotional regulation difficulties which can present as challenging behaviour.
Whilst you will be expected to work under the direction of the class teacher you will also have the ability to use your own initiative to organise tasks and activities; creating simple resources to support the pupil’s work as appropriate. You will work closely with the class teacher and the School’s SENCO as well as working in partnership with external contacts to support learning and development.
