We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a proactive team to lead Medway’s Highway Adoption functions.
The Highway Adoption Service oversees the delivery of consented development highway projects. Our aim is to ensure delivery of high standard user-friendly infrastructure, supporting everyone to travel safely and easily within Medway.
The successful candidate will guide the day-to-day delivery of the Council’s Highway Adoptions Service. Leading a small team in the oversight and execution of works related to legal agreements forming part of local developments affecting the highway, ensuring that new roads offered for adoption and associated changes to existing public highway are designed and built in accordance with the Council’s requirements and to appropriate standards.
The role involves managing the highway adoption process from planning consent to final adoption as public highway. Responsibilities include, appraising projects, applying technical expertise, overseeing the calculation and negotiation of bond figures, monitoring the delivery of highway engineering projects to ensure services are provided at the highest level, and engagement with stakeholders. You will also coordinate and supervise the work of engineers and assistant engineers within your area of expertise to enable the management and continual improvement of the team.
Working as part of the wider Transport and Parking Service you will have opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and workstreams.

This is a permanent role with a flexible hybrid working style, with the option to work at a fixed Council premises or a combination of Council premises and home working. A laptop and mobile phone would be provided.
The role is Medway based, with the potential for daily interaction with Medway based sites and infrastructure, the ability to drive and use of a private vehicle is therefore essential. The post attracts an essential car user allowance and mileage for travel is paid at a per mile rate. You will benefit from a minimum of 27 days leave increasing to 30 days leave after 5 years continuous service.
