Oak View Academy are looking to appoint a compassionate and patient teaching assistant, to start in January 2025, to provide learning support to pupils with additional needs. classroom. We are looking for a Level 3 qualified teaching assistant to join our team. Hours of work will be 08:30 to 15:30 with 30 minutes for lunch, working Monday to Friday term time plus 6 INSET days per year. Initially, the contract will be until 31st August 2025 although this may be extended dependent upon the needs of our pupils.

About the Role
The successful candidate will be involved in supporting class teachers, 1:1 work and small groups of pupils with additional needs. They will also be able to deliver appropriate intervention programmes to individuals and groups. We would like a dynamic and creative teaching assistant who is willing to embrace the wider life of school and work hard to positively impact the children’s mental and physical wellbeing, whilst supporting their learning. We would also expect the successful applicant to support the class teacher. A knowledge of Read Write Inc phonics and early reading development would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner, with high expectations of themselves and the children. They will have the ability to work within a motivated team who are relishing the challenge of supporting individuals to achieve their personal best. If you have excellent management skills, the experience to understand children with additional needs and the desire to take on a new challenge, you could be the person we need.
To join us and be successful, you will need to:-
- NVQ 3 or equivalent.
- English and Maths GCSE Grade C or equivalent
- Have the ability to manage groups of pupils and build positive relationships with children with additional needs.
- Experience of working with children with additional needs.
- Be subject to an Enhanced DBS disclosure, overseas police check (if applicable), health check and professional reference checks.
- Have the legal right to work in the UK.
Desirable criteria
- An experience of supporting children in class and delivering small group support out of class in KS1.
- A good knowledge of SEND and experience of strategies to support children with additional needs.
- A clear understanding of the importance of safeguarding and a commitment to ensuring that this is delivered to all children.
- A willingness to undertake additional training as required.

- To be responsible for delivering some Read Write Inc interventions to individuals/groups.
- Effective communication skills both orally and written.
- An ability to identify the next steps for the children’s learning.
- To have high expectations of the children and yourself.

- The ability to be responsible for the learning of a group of children within the class and feed back to the teacher on each child’s progress.
