This is an exciting time to join the newly restructured Climate, Sustainability & Environmental Services team and play a key role in making Hackney cleaner, safer and greener. As a Behaviour Change Officer you will be working between our Millfields Depot and the Hackney Service Centre, working to tackle residential waste issues, such as high waste volumes, low recycling participation and lack of education around household waste management. You will also address fly-tipping of waste as well as obstruction of the highway with waste receptacles.
There will also be an element of supporting Waste Enforcement Officers in tackling unregulated waste from commercial properties, and you may be required to help support educational projects in other areas of Climate, Sustainability and Environmental Services.
The Behaviour Change Team provides a visible, front-line presence across the borough and are ambassadors for our service, so we are looking for people who are hardworking, flexible and passionate about making a difference. The post holder will need to be a good communicator, happy to get his/her hands dirty (i.e. the post holder will be required to search through waste for evidence), and capable of understanding legislation and policies and explaining these in simple terms to our residents through correspondence and conversation.
The post is largely based outside and so a decent level of fitness is required, as is a willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions if the work requires it. You will be expected to drive the work vehicle and so a driving licence is essential, and the post holder will on occasion and with notice be required to work out-of-hours and/or at weekends.
The contract is for 36 hours per week based in Hackney (although over time there may be opportunities to work the occasional day from home).
