Your New Role
We are looking for a flexible and adaptable individual with a full clean driving licence with good communication skills to join our library service. You will drive the library van to provide deliveries as required to support the business.
You will also deliver a porterage and assistance role in the Central library and other buildings. As well as securely and safely delivering books and/or archive materials between service points you will ensure the safe and legal driving and parking of the vehicle whilst carrying out your duties. You will be responsible for the maintenance of the van as well as undertaking online driving assessment and licence checks as required for the role.
Other tasks will include responsibility for security duties within the Central library and assisting staff with library shelving and customer queries including managing challenging behaviour. The role will include messenger and porterage duties which will include lifting and moving of heavy items, assisting with deliveries and setting up and dismantling of room layouts. You will also be responsible for the opening and closing of the library after hours for pre booked events and cleaning and refuse management duties when required. In addition, you will be a fire warden for the Central library on a rota basis after appropriate training has been completed.
What you'll need to succeed
You will require a full clean driving licence and several years driving experience. A good communicator you will have excellent interpersonal and customer care skills. A team player who is flexible, adaptable and able to manage your own workload, you will be able to deal with challenging service users/disruptive visitors to the library. You will be able to lift heavy items of furniture, equipment, materials etc and be able to spend some of the time standing or walking around the library. In addition, you will be able to work weekends and evening in accordance with the opening times of the building and the requirements of room bookings.
