We are looking to appoint a Solicitor or Fellow of CILEX to join the Legal Services team in Burnley.
As a lawyer within the Litigation and Regulation team you will manage a varied and interesting caseload of both criminal and civil and regulatory matters. This will include giving advice to the Council on licensing, planning, environmental health and housing. You will also represent the Council in the Magistrates’ Court and County Court and give advice to elected members in committee.
You will have at least 2 years’ experience of working in a legal environment in a fee-earning capacity and will have advocacy experience in the Magistrates’ court.
You will need to demonstrate experience of three of the following areas of law; civil litigation, criminal law, licensing, highways, planning, information law and housing.
You will have excellent communication skills. You will have the ability to draft legal proceedings and statutory notices. You can manage a range of complex and competing priorities and deadlines. You are an effective member of the team but can work without supervision and you can manage a diverse workload.
Burnley is situated in Pennine Lancashire. It has a thriving town centre and is surrounded by attractive countryside. Burnley has excellent transport links around the region including a direct train line to Manchester.
The Council offers a generous pension scheme, holiday entitlement and exceptional work/ life balance.
If you have the above qualities and want to help us deliver an effective Legal service, then we would love to hear from you. If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role, please contact Catherine Waudby, Head of Legal and Democratic Services on 01282 477198 cwaudby@burnley.gov.uk.
