Position: Bursar
Location: Vine Tree Primary School, Dane Bank Avenue, Crewe, CW2 8AD
Salary: Grade 7, £30,559 - £33,366, 37 hours per week, pro rata per annum (38 weeks)
Working Hours: 8am – 4pm Monday to Thursday, 8am – 3:30pm Friday (30-minute lunch break)
Start Date: Mid-January 2025
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Role Summary:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Grade 7 Bursar who will oversee the effective financial and administrative management of the school. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and operational efficiency, supporting the Senior Leadership Team in achieving our educational and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the school’s budgeting, financial planning, and reporting to ensure efficient use of funds.
- Prepare and monitor budgets, financial forecasts, and regular financial reports for the Headteacher and Governors.
- Maintain robust financial controls, manage school accounts, and ensure compliance with relevant financial policies and procedures.
- Reconcile school funds and ensure that they are verified by an accountant annually.
- Resource and Facilities Management:
- Ensure effective procurement and resource management to support the school’s operational needs.
- Oversee the maintenance and development of school facilities, ensuring they meet health and safety standards.
- Coordinate contracts, supplies, and service providers to support the smooth running of school operations.
- Serve as the Attendance Officer for the school, playing an important role in supporting student attendance and promoting a positive school culture.
- HR and Payroll Administration:
- Manage payroll and employment records in compliance with school policies and statutory requirements.
- Support HR functions, including recruitment administration and managing staff attendance records.
- Governance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety, and data protection regulations.
- Prepare reports for the Governing Body on financial, administrative, and operational matters, contributing to strategic planning and development.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong background in financial management or school administration.
- Relevant qualifications in finance or business management are advantageous.
- Experience in an educational or public sector environment preferred.
- Skills:
- Excellent numeracy, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in financial software and MS Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with staff, children, and external stakeholders.
