We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our busy planning policy team.

About the role
You will be working as part of a friendly and supportive team contributing to the formulation of planning policies, development briefs, neighbourhood development plans, design guidance, supplementary planning guidance and similar through evidence gathering and analysis. Whilst working within the wider planning policy team, this role offers input into a range of projects with an emphasis on delivery of development including major development sites, and various infrastructure projects. You will engage with other teams across the Council providing planning policy advice and contributing to the delivery of high-quality development across North Somerset.
Our work means balancing significant development pressures in a constrained area which includes Green Belt, Mendip Hills National Landscape, extensive areas vulnerable to flooding and other sensitive environments. Our challenges are wide ranging and as a result there will be plenty of opportunity to develop your career.
This is a career graded post rising from £24,294 to £45,441 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Typical activities for this role are dependent on the grade, based on the knowledge, skills and experience you have. Further information can be found in the attached Job description.
Progression through the grades will be based on the needs of the service, attainment of the required competencies and managerial assessment at annual appraisal and 121 meetings.
About you
You will be motivated and proactive working across a range of projects at any given time. Whilst relevant experience is required for the more senior role, we would also consider less experienced candidates who can show they have the knowledge, skills and attributes to support our team in progressing the local plan, other areas of planning policy, and the delivery of high-quality development.
Ideally you should hold a degree in Town and Country Planning or equivalent and be eligible for membership of the RTPI with a good understanding in the preparation of statutory development plans and an up-to-date knowledge of national planning policy, including the implications of recent legislation changes. Experience and knowledge of development management processes is desirable. Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
